Have you ever encountered the following messages when trying to open a file: The file is unreadable; the file is corrupted, or error in opening the file?
If you have, then this means that the file in question has either been corrupted or damaged.
There are several reasons as to why this could happen. The major cause is of course, viruses. But other causes are buggy software used to create a file or a file crashing and getting jumbled up.
Below are some tools to help repair the damaged files.
This website is a free repair software that repairs your corrupted file on its website, rather than you having to download the software itself.
On the website, you get to upload your corrupted file then click a Secure Upload and Repair button, which will upload your file and repair it, after which you can then download the recovered file.
Stellar Microsoft Officer Repair Toolkit
This repair toolkit features three different utilities that are specialized to different file types: Word Documents, PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets.
Running the app scans the entire system for files that have been damaged or corrupted. Or you could simply select a file that you want repaired and upload it to the app.
However, the toolkit comes at a premium price costing $69 for subscription, which allows you access to the repair functionality.
Repair Toolbox isn’t a single app but rather, multiple one-purpose utilities – 22 to be exact. This then means that if you have multiple file types to repair, then you will need to download several of the utilities.
However, it is heaven sent when you only have one or two file types to repair. It supports all file formats, from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Photoshop and more.
Like Stellar, however, Repair Toolkit also comes at a premium price for full features.
Hetman File Repair specialized in repairing of corrupted or damaged image files (not deleted image files).
It can fix JPEGs, TIFFs, and PNG, all without changing the image quality or recompressing the image data.
This toolkit comes in two variants – a Home edition that is $60 a year and Office edition for $140 for business use.
You should note however, that these tools are there to repair minor issues. A file is a collection of data arranged in a particular way. So, a corrupted file might have small chunks of data jumbled up or missing and thus, these tools can repair.
However, if an entire file is complete corrupted or has large data missing, the tool kits might not help and you should consider deleting the files.
