  • Lenovo has stopped making Legion gaming phones
  • Despite their impressive features, Legion failed to capture their desired market
  • Gaming phones remain firmly second favorites behind laptops for hardcore gamers

Lenovo has confirmed that it will no longer be making any new Legion phones.

In a statement sent to Android Authority, the company, through a spokesperson, said that the company would no longer use the Legion brand on new phones.

“Lenovo is discontinuing its Android-based Legion mobile gaming phones as part of a wider business transformation and gaming portfolio consolidation,” said the spokesperson in the statement.

However, the company will continue to advancing the gaming sector, but said that it would focus more on where it brought the most value to the global gaming community.

This information then confirms that the Legion Y70, released in August 2022, is the last of the Legion phones.

Lenovo Legion Struggles

While the gaming sector on mobile phones is a struggling niche, Lenovo Legions have particularly struggled lot more. The Y90, released in 2022 was available only in a limited market and was never in distribution in the US, which is a major market for smartphones.

Despite packing some of the most cutting-edge technology in the phone market, the Legion, just like many other gaming phones, has struggled to properly fit in with the gaming communities, who would instead prefer gaming laptops. The phones’ high cost and often unique and flashy designs mean that they also are not an option for everyday use, despite their impressive features.

It is for these reasons that Lenovo won’t be the only gaming phone to exit the market.

Black Shark

According to reports from China, Xiaomi’s Black Shark sub-brand, meant for gamers, will be discontinued. The news comes months after the sub-brand laid off close to half of its employees in October 2022.

Lenovo follows in the footsteps of Razer, the maker of gaming laptops and other accessories, who stopped making gaming phones a few years back.
