Currently, with concerns around privacy from common and popular browsers, many people are now looking for alternatives that can provide them with proper data privacy.

This is where The Onion Router or Tor as it is commonly known, comes in. Tor is one of the most popular private browser in the world. Started by the U.S. navy, Tor was then allowed to go public and has become one of the world’s most used alternative web browsers.

Now, I know that many of you are aware of Tor and other alternative browsers that completely ensure your privacy associate it with doing illegal activity, but that is not true.

Due to its great security features, many people use Tor to browse the internet with a sense of peace without ads blocking their view or without any concerns that the website they are using is gathering data about them behind the scenes.

So, if you have a Windows PC and want to download Tor, here are the steps to follow:

  1. First, go to the Tor Project website, then click on the Tor browser download button, which will be in the top corner.
  2. When you click on this button, you will find yourself on the download page. Here, you will get options on which OS you want to download the browser on. Select Windows, which will be on the far left.
  3. You can also choose to download it in another language or platform by clicking ‘Download in another language or platform.’ You can select one of 35 language options.
  4. Once you click download, it will begin downloading a file to your computer. Once downloaded, open this file, and this will begin the process of installing Tor.
  5. Then, the Browser Setup should appear. Choose your destination folder (you most often won’t need to change anything from the default) and then click install.
  6. During this process, you can start the browser automatically, but if you choose not to, then you will have to look it up manually.
