Having goals and a purpose is considered to be one of the keys to living a happy and fulfilling life. After all, when your brain has something positive to look forward to, it does produce all feel-good hormones that make your happy. But, how do you go about making plans for reaching your goals? Well, it all comes down to a vision board.

A vision board is a visual representation of what you want to achieve and how you want to achieve them. It makes you visualize your goal, increasing your motivation and confidence in reaching it.

So, what does creating a vision board entail?

What matters most to you

The first thing you need to ask yourself when making your vision board is what is important to you. Think of what you really want to achieve or change in your life. Are you looking to advance in your career? Are looking to change careers altogether? Are you looking for a promotion?

Knowing what matters most to you will then help you decide what to include in your vision board, both long-term and short-term.

Write down your goals

Once you have figured out what matters to you, write them down. Find a quiet space, set some slow and soothing music and begin to visualize as you write down what you would like to achieve. Write down whatever comes to mind and skip any distracting thoughts not in line with your visualization.

Write these goals in small cards or pieces of paper. These are what you will stick on your vision board.

Decide on how to make your vision boards

There are two ways to make a vision board – by making one yourself, or by buying vision board kits. So you could choose either one, though many people find it a lot more fulfilling to create their own vision boards.

If you decide to make your own –

Gather your supplies

To create a vision board, you will need: The board (could be a pin board, corkboard or poster board); magazine cutouts or print cards; focus items such as images of places you want to visit, people you want to meet, things you want to buy; glue, stickers, tape, scissors to put your vision boards together.

Then, sit down and begin to map your written down goals on the vision board. Before pinning cards and posters on the board, play around with the layout. Then, once done, begin to lay down your vision.

Remember to change your vision board from time to time so that you do not stagnate.
