A budget smartphone depends on where you live around the world, but smartphones that cost under $500 fall into this bracket, and they can go as low as $200.
These are phones which are not top of the range, but are satisfactory or even excellent in day-to-day phone use. In 2022, we have seen our fair share of some very good budget smartphones.
But which ones have stood out?
Samsung A53
The Samsung A53 was released in March of this year and quickly captured the imagination of people across the world. With a 6.5 inch AMOLED screen and a 120 Hz refresh rate, the A53 is a worthy successor to the A52. The phone also has four back cameras: 64 MP main, 12 MP ultrawide, 5 MP macro and a 5 MP depth sensor. The selfie comes in at an impressive 32 MP.
So, if you want a functional phone on a budget, you won’t go wrong with the A53.
iPhone SE 2022
iPhone have really decided to dig in to the budget smartphone market and their SE phones keep going from strengths to strength. The iPhone SE 2022 is among their best budget smartphone in terms of performance. Packing the A15 bionic chip, the SE matches up and even outperforms similarly priced android devices. The phone also features a Touch ID, 4GB RAM and storage from 64 GB, 128 GB to 256 GB.
However, Apple’s choice to use the body of the iPhone 8 makes the phone look outdated when compared to its counterparts. The thick bezels mean that you are working with only a 4.7 inch, far less than what you get on your standard smartphone these days, regardless of price.
Redmi Note 11 Pro
Xiaomi has taken the smartphone world by storm and their Redmi line of phones are among the most popular budget smartphones in the world right now. The Redmi Note 11 Pro further cements Xiaomi’s status as the go-to company for budget smartphones.
The Redmi Note 11 Pro was released in February 2022 and is a 6.67-inch smartphone that features the powerful Mediatek Helio G96 Octa-core processor. The screen is a Super AMOLED screen with a 1080 x 2400 resolution. Aside from that, the Note 11 Pro comes with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The phone also has a 108 MP main camera sensor, along with 8 MP ultrawide, 2 MP macro and 2 MP depth. To think that you can get all these at just $ 265 on Amazon feels like a steal.
Nokia C 21
Nokia is slowly making its way back to the public conscious, and the Nokia C 21 is a respectable entry into the budget smartphone category.
Released in April 2022, the C21 is as basic as it gets. It features a 6.52-inch screen and runs on Android Go. It has a 13 MP main camera along with a 2 MP depth sensor, along with a 5 MP selfie camera.
There is nothing outstanding about the Nokia C 21, but for less than $ 250 on Amazon, you get a reliable, well-put together phone from a reputable company.
