Our gadgets have been made to last for a long time but as with any other man-made components, they will fail after some time.

One of the components that is susceptible to this is the RAM, whether it be for your computer or phone, but especially on your computer. A RAM failure can be crippling to your computer as it is responsible for how smoothly your machine runs at any given time. The fact that you can shift effortlessly through programs is all down to RAM. And sadly, RAMs are reliable but have a high failure rate relative to other core components in your device.

Below then, are tell-tale signs that your RAM is failing.

Diminished performance

If you find that your device begins to slow down the longer you use it, then this could be a sign of failing RAM. This problem becomes more noticeable when you use intensive apps such as gaming apps or editors such as Photoshop and web browsers.

And you can check to see it’s not a malfunctioning program by restarting your phone. If the problem persists even after you open different programs, then the RAM is definitely at fault.

Frequent and Random crashes

Now, frequent and random crashes in and of themselves are not a sign of a faulty RAM. For example, if you get the blue screen of death when performing certain tasks, for example, opening a certain app, that could be a problem with the app and not RAM. In this instance, delete the app.

However, if the crashes are random and without warning, then you can also point to a faulty RAM. Another sign of a faulty RAM is if the computer crashes when you attempt to install something new.

Corrupted data files

Once again, corrupted data files in and of themselves are not a sign of failing RAM. For example, they could be a sign of a virus infection. So, before blaming the RAM, use your antivirus to check and clean your device.

However, if the problem persists, then this sign, in addition to the other signs here, could be a sign of faulty RAM. A defective RAM also means that your data will begin to get corrupted over time, meaning your file may be okay today only to be corrupted tomorrow. The worsening of RAM issues will eventually corrupt your computer HDD and thus, could end in your device completely failing to boot.

Now, once again, these signs (and more) are not signs automatic signs of a failing RAM. But if any other remedies such as antivirus cleaning and factory resetting the device do not provide a solution, then the only answer is a failing RAM.

If you have a failing RAM, the only solution is replacing the unit. You can take the computer to a professional for the replacement. Luckily RAMs come in at relatively affordable prices.
